Did you know that your interviewers will form an impression of you within 3 seconds of meeting you and that if this is a poor impression, it’s hard to shift, even if what you say is good?

If this is the case, and research says it is, you must make the right first impression. What interview clothes you are wearing is key to this. As they say, “you never get a second chance at a first impression” and in the case of a job interview, this might mean no 2nd chance at your dream job!

So make it count. Here’s how:
Dress professionally and conservatively for every job interview, even if you know the working environment in casual and modern. It is okay to be overdressed but never ok to be underdressed. This means ironing your interview clothes properly. You might be asked, not invited, to remove your jacket and regret only ironing the collar of your shirt/blouse. Pay attention also to your general appearance. Your hair should be clean and tidy. If it needs cutting, do this a few days before the job interview so you’re comfortable with how it looks on the day. Your nails should be clean and neat. You’ll shake hands with your interviews and your hands will be on display the whole time in your job interview. By all means wear jewellery but don’t overdo it. The same goes for perfume or aftershave and make-up. Clean and polish your shoes. Even if your suit is top notch, dirty, unpolished shoes are a no-no.

All job interviewers will tell you they are more interested in what you have to say than in how you look but all will agree that a poor appearance can ruin a good interview. Don’t let that interview be yours.

Clothing Labels and Care Labeling Rules

The most effective marketing tool to instantly grab the attention of customers is product labels, and if it’s a well designed one, it can help increases sales greatly.

However, in the case of clothing labels, the scenario is a bit different. Clothing labels are important but not necessarily the first thing noticed; and once worn, people rarely look at the tag stitched inside their pants or jacket.

The care label in a garment is a tag given to the product containing regular maintenance information and instructions. Different tag strategies reach those consumers looking for the convenience of dry cleaning and those who prefer the ease and economy of buying garments they can wash at home. Clothing labels are a deciding factor when consumers shop for clothing.

This is the reason that at times manufacturers provide more than one set of instructions. With washing options available, the manufacturers can successfully target different consumers. Some manufacturers also use an add-on tag like “For best results, dry clean.”

The care labels rule governs and is targeted to the manufacturers and importers of textile wearing apparel, manufacturers and importers of piece goods sold, and organizations that directs and control the textile apparel industry.

It is very crucial that as per the FTC, the clothing labels of a product provide:

1. Complete information and instructions about regular care for the garment and also provide warnings thereby cautioning the customers before purchase.

2. Provide assurance to the customers that if the instructions are carefully followed, you can keep from damaging the garment.

3. Ensure that the product provides specific detailed information for ordinary usage. For example: In case of clothes, the label should specify the washing method, type of water, method used for drying, whether the cloth can be ironed or not, and the temperature of ironing if necessary.

4. It is requisite that manufacturers use commonly used terms in the clothing label such that consumers can easily understand.

5. The manufacturer is only required to list one method of care that is safe.

6. It is required that the domestic manufacturers attach tags to finished products before they are sold, and that they are visible at the point of purchase. If in case it is not visible, it is required to appear on the outside of the package.

If a garment is manufactured and made up of several components, then there should be reliable evidence supporting the statement that the garment will not be damaged when cleaned as directed. Industry experience and expertise can solve most care worries before a consumer purchase.

Wholesale Name Brand Clothing Versus Non Branded Clothing



A customer called me recently and asked me whether I think he should focus on non branded clothing or brand name clothing.

His question is based on the following idea.

Brand name clothing is highly recognizable by customers because the brands spend millions of dollars marketing themselves. Non branded clothing, basically clothing by smaller labels or imported from overseas, have no name recognition. But the flip side is that non branded clothing can be purchased and resold for allot less than branded clothing.

So how do you decide between selling non branded and brand name clothing?

For starters you need to know who your customers are.

Although the following might not be politically correct you need to understand this.

Lower income customers might want brand name clothing but they cannot afford it. So even though they would love to have brand name clothing they will usually settle for non branded clothing.

On the other hand more affluent customers will want only branded clothing because they have more pressure in terms of keeping up with the latest styles.

Now the above is true in the theoretical world. But in the real world everyone wants brand name clothing.

So how do you as a reseller buy brand name clothing at prices low enough to sell to your poorer customers?

You need to purchase overstock clothing.

Overstock clothing consists of clothing which a department store did not sell within a set period of time. A department store wants to always have new merchandise on its racks. Whatever does not sell within a set period of time will be sold out as overstock.

Since the overstock consists of brand names you have a great opportunity.

You can get a hold of brand new clothing by leading brands at a fraction of the regular wholesale price.

What’s the catch?

When you purchase overstock clothing you will receive a wide assortment of styles and sizes.
You can’t specify the number of pants or skirts, or sizes for that matter.

So while this might discourage some people from purchasing overstock clothing, just think of the advantages of buying brand names like Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy, Liz Claiborne, Ecko, and Baby Phat, for a fraction of the regular wholesale price.

Merchandising is never easy at the best of times, but when you have a your own clothing shop it can be a minefield.

A poorly merchandised shop can cost you money, lots of it. Getting it right is everything. To get it right you need to know what your most popular stock lines are, what is not selling, what the most popular sizes are and your most popular accessories.

Once you have all that information you can get to work. One main thing to remember is to use quality display equipment, using cheap and non-matching equipment will make your display look cheap and amateur.

Try to get display equipment that matches, this does not need to cost you a fortune, but don’t be scared to spend you money. If you get your displays right then you will see a return on your investment.

Use the internet. There are many websites where you can buy you equipment from, even auction websites are good.
